Knowby Capture Browser Extension Administrative Deployment

The Knowby Capture browser extension supports enterprise-grade administrative deployment. This guide outlines how IT administrators can force-install the extension.

For enterprise IT teams managing hundreds or thousands of devices, asking every employee to manually visit the Chrome Web Store to install a tool is simply not an option. You need a seamless, "silent" deployment that requires zero action from the end-user.

The Knowby Capture browser extension fully supports enterprise-grade administrative deployment. This guide outlines how IT administrators can force-install the extension globally, ensuring a frictionless rollout for your team.

The "Silent" Install: Force-Installing via Policy

Whether you manage your fleet via Windows Group Policy (GPO), Microsoft Intune, or the Google Workspace Admin Console, you can deploy Knowby Capture silently using standard Chrome Enterprise policies.

To do this, you will use the ExtensionInstallForcelist policy. This policy automatically installs the extension in the background without user interaction and prevents users from disabling or uninstalling it.

What you need:

  • Knowby Capture Extension ID: jppboolaajngjhmagldabhknlgahhemj

  • Update URL: https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx (This is the standard Google Web Store update URL).

How it works across platforms:

  • Google Workspace Admin Console: Navigate to Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers.

    • Click the yellow "+" button that will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen.

    • Choose "Add from Chrome Web Store" (or "Add by extension ID").

    • Search for "Knowby Capture" or paste the Extension ID (jppboolaajngjhmagldabhknlgahhemj) and select it.

    • Once added to the list, click the drop-down menu under "Installation policy" next to the app and change it to Force install + pin to browser toolbar.

    • Save your changes in the top right corner.

  • Windows GPO: Under Computer (or User) Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Google > Google Chrome > Extensions, locate the Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions policy. Enable it and add the following string: jppboolaajngjhmagldabhknlgahhemj;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx

Deployment Checklist for IT Managers

To ensure a smooth rollout across your organization, we recommend the following deployment strategy:

  1. Test in a Sandbox: Target a small Organizational Unit (OU) or a pilot group of users.

  2. Apply the Force-Install Policy: Use your preferred device management tool (GPO, Intune, Workspace, etc.) to deploy the Extension ID and Update URL.

  3. Verify the Push: Open Chrome on a test machine, type chrome://policy into the address bar, and verify that the ExtensionInstallForcelist policy is applying correctly and the extension appears in the browser toolbar.

  4. Roll Out Globally: Once verified, expand the policy to your broader enterprise groups.
