Setting your knowby's base language
When you create a knowby, Knowby asks you to confirm the language you're creating it in. This is the knowby's base language, and everything that comes later depends on it: verified translations you add yourself, and languages auto-translated on demand for viewers.
1. What the base language is.
The base language is the language you write and record your knowby in. Every translation Knowby produces is generated from this language, so it has to match what's actually in your steps.
2. When you'll see this dialog.
The Select Base Language dialog appears while you're creating the knowby, before you start building your steps. Knowby pre-fills a suggested language, so all you need to do is check it and confirm.
3. Check it before you confirm.
Pick the language you're about to write your steps in, not the language of the Knowby interface. If you're creating the knowby in Dutch but the dialog shows English (EN), open the dropdown and select Dutch. Getting this right takes a few seconds and saves rework later.
4. Confirm your choice.
Click Confirm. The base language cannot be changed afterwards, because every translation is tied to it as its source. If you pick the wrong one, you'll need to create the knowby again with the correct base language.
5. What happens next.
Your knowby's base language is now set. From here, other languages come from two places: translations you add and check yourself in the Languages tab in Studio, and on-demand auto-translation, which lets a viewer read the knowby in their own language without you doing anything.
